The Egg Park translates Bologna’s maps, lost towers, and vanished fragments into a distorted public terrain. Using the egg as a fragile curved surface, city lines are stretched, broken, and reassembled into slopes, cracks, voids, and curved ground.
Inspired by Arakawa and Gins, the park creates perceptual instability while still supporting orientation, accessibility, and safe movement. Beyond basic safety upgrades from UK Documents K and M, it responds to different bodies, ages, and behaviours. Echoing Japanese firm SANAA’s 'loose script' and board-game-like rules, the park does not prescribe one correct route; instead, users complete the space through movement, pause, gaze, and deviation.
Through VR, eye-tracking, and fire-smoke testing, these behaviours become design feedback, adjusting colour, texture, geometry, slope, material surface, and visual cues. The Egg Park is therefore not a finished object, but a pluralistic spatial system continuously activated, tested, and completed by its users.
The egg robot translated 2D maps and plans onto the curved shell, using distortion as a design tool. This method later informed the Egg Park, represented by a CNC-milled pine model, where routes, cracks, slopes, and terrain shifts become physical.
The renders show the Egg Park as an inhabitable distorted landscape. The plan is developed as a traversing plan, recording participants’ routes and gaze points, then using this feedback to adjust paths, surfaces, programmes, and spatial guidance.
The section drawing records participants’ routes, gaze points, and visual inclination to façades. These interactions informed adjustments to material, texture, colour, and surface treatment, turning the section into a feedback-based design drawing.
The Egg Park VR eye-tracking practice invited different age groups to navigate, look, pause, and interact with the landscape. Their routes and gaze data became feedback for refining surfaces, paths, materials, and spatial guidance.
The film traces the Egg Park from methodology to landscape generation, VR eye-tracking tests, feedback, and design adjustments, including a special smoke-and-fire escape simulation that tests visibility, judgement, and evacuation.
